Beatha

Wood! Wood! More wood!

This ring is about life, beatha (the ogham inscription) being the old Irish word for it.  It's circularity symbolizes the renewal of life.

Inspired by Buckquoy's spindle-whorl.

Items needed:

  • drilling machine with center bits or forstner bits with a diameter matching your finger

  • a small, rectangular piece of wood

  • sandpaper and optionally drill disk sander

  • pyrography tool kit

  • How to make it:

    1. Create the shape of the ring by using the drilling machine to create the center hole and sanding out the outer edges.

    2. Draw with a pencil the marking on the ring. Burn the engravings into the ring by using the phyrography tool.

    3. Optionally, one could use a coating of wood oil to protect it.
